Infrared are rays of light that are just beyond red in the spectrum. These rays of light cannot be seen but produce heat deep inside an object.

Heat is a form of energy caused by movement of molecules. Infrared heaters move molecules deep inside the asphalt heating it from within. When heat is applied to the surface of asphalt with a hand held torch or other flame producing devices, the oils are evaporated and the aggregate separates changing the inherent characteristics of the pavement. This causes an inferior repair.
